The Fledge

•October 18, 2010 • Leave a Comment

The Fledge is a compilation of stories written by freshmen at Georgia Southern University. Our task is to take these stories and make a website for them. We can add audio, video, graphics…basically anything we want to make it interesting.

My group decided to use Wix to build our Fledge website. We’re able to choose from hundreds ouf layouts, font designs, backgrounds, and visual effects. The main thing we have to focus on is getting the pages to flow and correlate with one another.

It’s really cool to build a website from the ground up. You have many different ideas that come together to make one great product. I think our website is going to turn out great!

25/8

Lunenfeld writes, ” Someone living 25/8 perforce has no time to examine anything at all. 25/8 is the human trying to push past the limits of the flesh into the real of pure performance.”

Some people try to do EVERYTHING. It’s impossible to do that. They claim that there is never enough time in the day to do all the things they need to do. I think when people are trying to focus on too many things, everything they do is not done to the best of their ability. People should focus on a few things, so that they can do them the right way. If you try to do too much, something is going to get overlooked.

Lunenfeld says, “So it is that we now live in an era that claims to be a new renaissance, in which actors can be singers, singers can strive to be artists, painters become film directors, digtial artists say that they are scientists…” Although I do think that people possess many talents, I think they should work on perfecting their best one.

Online Persona

For class we had to create an online persona. Basically it’s a web page about me, what I do, and all that good stuff. It was kind of tedious at first. You have to figure out how you want the pages to flow, what you want them to say, and what type of graphics or video. But once I got into the swing of things, it became easier to do. I haven’t completed it yet, but basically I have a home page with my picture on it and a brief description of me. Them there is a page about my school and what I am majoring in. There is a page about my invovlements on campus, and another about my volunteering. Lastly there is my professional page, which has my resume and what I plan to do after college.

Ethos, Pathos, Logos, Kairos

I decided to go to the Atlanta Journal Constitution website.

ETHOS: In order for this site to keep it’s audience it must always maintain it’s credibility. Because it reports the news, the repoters must always stay objective and state the facts/truth. I think the AJC is very ethical.

PATHOS: Beneath every story there is a place for the readers to write their feelings on the subjects.

LOGOS: The site is very straight forward. It has a list of stories for readers to choose from. Once they click on the story’s title, they are taken to the story. There are also links, photos, and sometimes video/audio.

KAIROS: The site is updated as stories happen and are reported on. So the timing is always on point, and the stories stay relevant.

Technology and Isolation

Technology & Isolation

I believe that technology isolates us. People are always on their “personal” computers and cellular phones.

Families don’t even sit at the dinner table anymore. Every member has a television in their room, so they all eat separately to watch their favorite shows. Kids are no longer going outside to play games with their neighborhood friends. They play video games inside on their Wiis, Play Stations, or computers. In some cases, kids have cell phones so they are tuned into those.

I’ve noticed that the dating scene has changed drastically. You don’t have to “talk” to your significant other anymore. You can just text, email, or IM. People can go a whole day without seeing their loved ones or hearing their voices…and it’d be fine because they’ve been connected to that person via technology all day. Now there is video chatting, so you can see and hear them, it’ not the same as being there with that person. I think it’s technology has made relationships lazy. You can be five minutes away from someone, but instead of going to see them text, email, or Skype.

Sometimes I see people in a room filled with people, but they are still in their own world. They are consumed with their phones and computers. So although they are not by themselves, they are still isolated. Technology allows for us to do virtually whatever we want, wherever we are. There is very little effort. I also think sometimes technology can bring us together, but for the most part I think it doesn’t.

What is Multimedia?

What is Multimedia?

Multimedia is the combination of text, still pictures, video, slide shows, audio, polls, surveys, links, etc.

I think multimedia is vital in this day and age. Technology has made getting information entertaining and interactive. A story comes to life when pictures, video, and audio are added. It becomes more interesting.

Most people’s attention spans are not that long, so using multimedia engages the audience and keeps conveys the message faster.

From this course I hope to learn more ways of incorporating multimedia in writing.

Digital Future

I think the digital future will be filled with touch screen devices and a lot of voice activation and recognition things. Televisions will be in 3D, and perhaps the computer and TV will be in one unit. Cellular devices and music devices will all be in one. Actually I think the cell phone, music players, and computers will all be in one device. The laptop might become a memory.

I think everything that we have now will be ten times better in power, but a lot smaller in size. We will be able to send and receive things much faster and easier. I think the digital future will continue to make us more and more lazy.
